If you’ve camped out before then you know that paying extra attention to your planning list will save you headaches out in the campsite, especially if it starts to rain. Not everyone is cut out to camp it out these days but for those that do it it can be very rewarding and you have a great time. Taking kids along gives you more responsibility on a whole new set of what ifs. So being prepared will aid you when the time comes to bandage that finger or to change your direction to another trail using your portable GPS (that was on your to-bring list) to get back to camp when lost on a trail. You never know what many happen and you will want your kids to have a great time so that you can repeat the event crisis free.
Its always good to get the kids involved when deciding where to go camping and what kind of campout it will be like being a fishing campout, or hiking campout, lake campout, beach campout, biking campout see where I’m going with this? So the more influence that the have on their destination the more that they will feel involved and part of something.
When packing first make a list, so many is the time when I have seen others prepare to go camping and they just throw whatever they think they need in a backpack and head out the door. Be smart and pack the night before and even better get the kids to help pack.
Keep in mind that handheld video games will probably be the only item on the majority of the kids (make sure that to pack plenty of batteries to keep them going all night) their own dress wear properly in the backpacks as well as the items that you will be taking along.
Kids should also be involved in what food to take (to a point as ho-hos and donuts chased with soda pop wont cut it for breakfast) and how to eat and prepare it. Out of all the best things to take to eat on a camping trip are fresh fruit along with the proper food items to make a proper and chocolaty delicious Smore’s from the campfire. If you have a backyard or BBQ pit area then try cooking outdoors what you will be cooking when the big camping day comes. this will help you in making sure that you have all the proper ingredients and cooking-ware to cook when camping and in not throwing a fit when you are at the campsite after you just caught the nicest and fattest trout and when it comes time to season it you come to the stark realization that you forgot to bring the salt!
Its always wise to practice in setting your tent up with the kids in your back or front yard to make sure that all the pieces are there and functional and that you know the basic setup and can know focus more on tweaking the posts to make the tent nice and solid. If your kids are still young or not accustomed to outdoor bathroom facilities (and you as well) then you can opt for campgrounds that include security, bathroom, showers and running water. This will be a whole lot better than going to the bathroom in the shrubs and bathing in the lake.
remember to take extra clothes along in case it rains, or someone falls in the river, and especially if the temperature will drop to an uncomfortable level. A campout can be ruined if all the kids are shivering and whimpering. Also make sure to take plenty of natural sunscreen (natural is the best as many commercial sunscreens contains toxic chemicals that can kill the reef and or marine and water life and having 8 kids drenched in commercial sunscreen jump into a lake or beach will do a serious job to the waterlife there) along and most importantly bug repellent and or bug repellent lamps. Familiar items are always good to take along like stuffed animals, books, blankets and even pillows will give the child more reassurance since these things are all new to them. flashlights and alternative light sources should be at the top of anyone’s list. Light make will everything easier and better.
these tips will make your trip a whole lot better as you can focus more on the fun to be had so go on and get planning and have a great time.
