One of the main excuses people use for not exercising is that they don’t have the time to go to a gym. And with the rising cost of gym memberships, some people don’t have the resources to spare. But whether it is time or money that keeps you from the gym, it is no excuse to ignore your health. For people who are too busy or who are too stretched in the pocketbook to get to a gym, there are simple home exercises that will do the trick in lieu of the traditional gym workout.
Walking the dog
Walking is an exercise that takes little money and is surprisingly easy to fit into even the busiest of schedules. Take the time when you get off work to walk your dog or take a stroll with your family to a park. Also, if you have a grocery store nearby, leave the car at home to do your shopping and walk to the store and back, Carrying the groceries will also give a little extra workout to your walk.
Body weight exercises
Even without an expensive weight set or resistance machine, there are plenty of workouts that can give your muscles some tone. Pushups, sit ups, pull ups, crunches and any other workout that uses the body’s weight and gravity to workout the muscle are easy to fit into time at home and are free of charge. A lot of muscle can be built by just using the body’s weight and increasing the number of reps of these simple exercises.
One of the best ways to get exercise is to pick up a sport. There is an advantage to getting involved in team sports like softball because you are motivated by the group and because it is also very fun. Pickup games of basketball, golfing (without a cart), water polo, volleyball are great sports to give your heart a workout and keep you in shape while at the same time socializing with friends and having fun.
Yoga, karate, Ti Chi
Eastern exercises like yoga can be done at home very easily and are wonderful for stretching the muscles and giving them tone. Karate and Ti Chi are also good for keeping balance and stretching the muscles. When practiced with discipline, these eastern workouts can be as beneficial for the mind as well. They are also proven to reduce stress.
Do your chores
A very simple way to stay in shape is to stay busy doing busy work. Keeping your home in shape is a great way to keep yourself in shape as well. Gardening, moving boxes and just simple cleaning can be a workout if you put some elbow grease behind it. You also get the benefit of a cleaner living space.
