Many out there think that by skipping lunch that they will be losing some ounces around the waistline or helping their diets in some way but sadly the illusion becomes a reality when the hunger pangs begin and the urge to wolf down a fast food burger becomes impossible which causes you to eat lower quality foods like fast foods which are hot and ready for you to gorge on but have literary no nutritional whatsoever.  Lunch is the one of the most important meals of the day and many out there try to skimp on meals or snacks when in reality this is the most important meal that you should ingest as you are at the halfway point of your day and need to keep your metabolism fueled to get you through to the end.   Remember that fast foods or fried foods will cause extreme stress on our digestive system which makes it work more forcing the majority of the blood in your heart to go to your digestive track, which is great but the bad part is that you probably work or are studying and need to perform at a high level so if your body is directing most of your blood to process fast foods and sodas less blood will go to your brain and decrease all of your mental abilities.  Many combat these tired feeling with of all things coffee or those canned power drinks that should really be on the DEA narcotic list and the sad effects that accompany these drinks can and will take you on a roller coaster ride that will end with you getting to sleep later and later and taking sleeping aids to snooze.

Lunch is beneficial in many ways in keeping your blood glucose levels regulated and recharging your body with important vitamins and minerals that you might have missed when you just reached for that donut on the way out the door convincing yourself that it contained all the nutrients that your body needed to get you through the next three or four hours.  MANY out there really do skimp on breakfast and damage themselves even further by skimping on lunch thinking that they will be tomorrows next Top Model.  Sadly when dinnertime comes the desire to gorge and eat everything but the kitchen sink arises and you must feed the beast so in you go and have seconds on dessert all the while promising yourself that you will workout for an extra ten minutes the next day.   Most people overeat consistently like this and the end game of that is more and more weight to your body and more and more stress as well.   With a stomach full of food the desire to be soak up by your couch becomes overbearing and thoughts of hitting the gym all but escape the mind and cause you to grab that remote control and start the surfing in the hopes of finding those comfort movies that will keep you in that couch for the next three hours before you go to bed.   Skimping on meals will cause you to eat more store snack foods like candy bars and cookies with artificial sugars that will all but ruin your metabolic rate and cause it to ride like the stock market and wear you down bit by bit.

Eating a healthy lunch will give you better concentration and memory retention with more sustained energy to get you through the day which you need lest you be fired for being lazy and forgetful. You might get a quick energy boost from the refined sugar and caffeine but it will be short lived and cause a blood sugar crash that will leave you craving more sugar.

Focus on high fiber/high complex carbohydrates foods from whole grain sources along with protein, a little fat, and fresh fruit or veggies, which will provide good energy. You want sustained calories that last through the morning, keeping you energized and alert through out the day.  There are also many studies which prove that people who eat a healthy breakfast eat less during the rest of the day simply because they don’t have those cravings during the day. If you look at the current weight problems affecting the western world these days you can see how bad eating habits are contributing to the problem.

One of the best ways to speed up your metabolism is to eat a healthy breakfast every day. Breakfast is your first chance of the day to give your body the nutrition it needs to perform at its optimal level. Give your body what it needs and you will be surprised at how much easier it is to lose that extra weight you’ve been trying to get rid of.
