Sleep disorders have become the latest unwanted trend everywhere you look as people are having problem falling asleep and others having an inability to stay asleep and experiencing the bad side effects of poor sleep.  There are three major causes for one having a proper night’s sleep which are internal, external and also due to disturbances in your normal circadian cycle or more commonly known as our body clock, which runs on a roughly 24-hour cycle in behavioral, physiological and biochemical processes.  Most often than not the diet that a person has will have a lot to do with the amount of sleep that they are actually getting.   By paying attention to these foods you will almost be guaranteeing yourself a good night’s sleep.

First off you can try:

  • picture of nutmegNutmeg is also great as it contains the natural substance called myristin which small quantities can induce drowsiness and give one a sense of well being.  Make sure to take full advantage of all the holiday foods this season as many foods contain this great substance like eggnog, pumpkin and apple pie.  So don’t feel guilty the next time you reach for a slice of pie and chase it with a warm cup of eggnog, yum.
  • picture of woman drinking hot milkMilk is also useful especially with a tablespoon of honey as it can provide your body with natural sugars which will stimulate serotonin and will give you a soothing effect.
  • picture of bananasBananas.  This fruit is great because it contains carbohydrates which will encourage the production f serotonin which is a natural brain relaxant.
  • picture of sunflower seedsSesame and sunflower seeds are also wonderful to eat as they are loaded with magnesium which is very helpful in relaxing the muscles and keeping them cramp free and magnesium is important in the manufacturing of serotonin.

 

Also keep in mind that any impairment in the brain such as sleep apnea can be potential cause for sleep disorder and one should consult a Doctor to assure that you are taking all the proper precautions and natural remedies to alleviate your sleep disorder.  If these tips are followed you will be assure a better night’s sleep and feel like a million bucks the next day.
