Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) has rushed across America and the world to become the most common liver disease and to this date over 30 million people have been afflicted with NAFLD which can lead to liver cancer, cirrhosis, and even liver failure. This disease does not derive from alcohol abuse nor does it come from Hepatitis C or B but really comes from standard American diet which has spread across the globe and affected many.
NAFLD happens when fatty lipids occupy cells just enough to go over five percent of the livers weight and this has been linked to type 1 and 2 diabetes which hints that NFLD has a greater impact on high amounts of excessive sugar intake than saturated fats. It should be strongly noted that eating non-processed saturated fat which is in raw milk, butter, cheeses, and meat from cows that have been grass feed will not cause fatty liver disease.
High fructose corn syrup is one of the usual suspects hand in hand with trans-fatty acids which can be found in cheap processed oils and are in most foods from ketchup to even sandwich meats this is probably what they mean by advertising it as a preservative. The biggest problems with high fructose corn syrup is that the liver becomes solely responsible for metabolizing it and what it cannot metabolize it quickly turns into fat and this also applies to all those fancy table sugar packets. This also becomes true of glucose or table sugar as the liver is also responsible for metabolizing as much as 20 percent of glucose. A simple formula would be that for every 120 calories consumed 1 calorie gets stored as fat and the same 120 calories of HFCS results in 40 calories worth converting to fat which stays in the liver. Of course the climb in obesity amongst children and adults is a very direct result of High Fructose Corn Syrup (HFCS) coming from treats such as bagged chips, commercial pastries, sandwich meats or any processed meat as they are not using it as a flavor enhancer but as a preservative and out of many High Fructose Corn Syrup products tested by independent laboratories it was found to contain very high levels of mercury which is used to manufacture HFCS.
The biggest and most serious consequence is that this TOXIC MERCURY can get stuck in your own liver and causes havoc on the liver as it tries to metabolize HFCS and produces uric acid which of course will up your blood pressure, cause gout and lead to liver disease. The majority of the corn around is GMO corn and is the one and only selection for HFCS manufacturers because GMO destroys probiotic bacteria which puts a damper on the liver as it forces it to work more and harder which ups your chances of liver disease and or liver failure. One of the reasons that HFCS is widely used is that it is highly addictive which causes you to snack more and even when you are not hungry as it causes slight pangs which make you eat or drink more. A pure example is when you buy that commercial iced tea along with those fries, the HFCS in all of those items will trigger you to eat more and drink more as it dangerously interferes with your hormones and your brain becomes numb to the feeling of being full and by and by you will notice your weight becoming more and more. The long term affect of HFCS is not know yet as it has only been around for 30 to 40 years but one would be wise to know that the long term effects would not be to good, if you live to tell about it.
Simply stay away and do not eat processed foods, all sodas, energy drinks, iced teas, this goes for gatorade as well, all junk foods and transfats. Look for anything even hinting of HFCS and artificial sweeteners like Coke Zero or light as these are the most dangerous ones. Get your daily regime of exercise and fresh nutrients and you will be alright.
If your already overweight, have any type of diabetes or even high blood pressure get a liver enzyme blood test done. You can reverse the damage done by avoiding all foods containing HFCS and artificial sweeteners and drinking herbs such as milk thistle because it contains silymarin which is a flavonoid that goes directly to the liver to repair damage.
