That freshly squeezed boxed OJ may not be fresh or natural at all

picture of fresh oj

Although the cartons may say freshly squeezed or not from concentrate that juice actually sat in large vats for more than a year before being shipped out to stores.  Big juice companies store their juices in large vats for storage and to remove any oxygen from the juice to prevent oxidation in tanks were it must sit for a year or more.  The problem arises when it is time to bottle the juices but the juices lose its flavor which means that the companies must add chemicals to give the juice that fresh juice flavor. These flavor chemical packs are not required to be printed on the product and thus go unnoticed by consumers who must pay for whatever side effects these chemicals may have in their bodies because they are labeled as essences and oils derived from the orange byproducts.  The high price tag for this juice is due to its pasteurization and storage which is more time and money consuming that storing orange juice concentrates.

When the orange juice is removed of oxygen it is also stripped of the natural nutrients and essences that give OJ its flavor.  So these juice companies hire fragrance companies to formulate perfumes for Calvin Klein, Channel and Gucci to name a few to add the flavor back to the juice by way of chemicals in flavor packs.

So if your looking for fresh you may just have to buy the oranges and squeeze them yourself to make sure you get the real deal.
