Bikinis, bikinis, and more bikinis! If this last winter you’ve been hibernating in your clothes and not staying active during winter, the last thing you want to do is go out in front of people with a swimsuit on. You want to cover up. Am I right? What I want to get across to you, is that it’s never too late to start an active lifestyle.

I recently have lost about 20 pounds by taking advantage of the cold winter months, and found myself in the gym 6 times a week doing what I needed to do to have the body that I want. Now that summer days are here, I want to emphasize the importance of utilizing everything that we have been given in this world! A lot of people think that they need to literally step foot into a gym to get a great workout. That’s definitely not the case. You can get some of the most basic workouts in, just in your own front yard. Pushups, Crunches, Lunges, and Cardio. You name it!picture of Natasha Lowe

I live out here in Utah, and live up by the mountains, not only are they beautiful to look at, but they also can provide myself with some great cardio, not to mention a great leg workout. Go on a hike. If you’ve complained before about having kids, and not being able to workout, I see that as an excuse. Get those kids away from those video games and take them up into the mountains, or to the park, and lead by example and show them what it’s like to lead an active lifestyle!

A lot of the time you don’t want to go on a straight up the mountain hike. There are flat trails that go along the mountains that you can take advantage of. If you’re a runner, this is a great way for you to add some beautiful scenery in! I recently have started getting back into hiking, and went this past weekend with a friend, and I have forgot how much “footwork” is involved. Hiking over rivers, stepping on rocks, is great for balance, and learning that footwork that will also help you inside of the gym.

Sometimes you will have to find yourself testing your upper body strength by having to lift yourself up over huge rocks just to get to the next part of your hike. I encourage you to bring water, as well as bring a couple protein bars for energy. Go out, live life. Enjoy the world around you! You deserve it, and so does your family. Live an active and healthy lifestyle, and be amazed at the benefits that can come from getting out and making the world your own playground.
