When functioning properly the diaphragm should deter the acids in your stomach

Heartburn affects over 40 percent of Americans today and finding a way to avoid it and get rid off can take a huge load off of you literary.  One very common cause of acid reflux disease is a stomach abnormality named a hiatal hernia which happens when the upper part of the stomach and LES move above your diaphragm which is the name of the muscle that provides a separation between your chest and your stomach. When functioning properly the diaphragm should deter the acids in your stomach but if you suffer from a hiatal hernia this will move up into your esophagus and cause you to have heartburn.

A well planned and executed diet will make all the difference in your quality of life and cause you to feel better and in better shape as well.

Foods to avoid include:

  • Foods high in fat
  • Spicy foods
  • Coffee
  • All carbonated drinks
  • Alcohol
  • Milk chocolate

Most of these foods also cause heart disease, diabetes, stroke and cancer and should be avoided altogether for longer life and happier health.

There are also foods out there that can help you in your fight and conquest over acid reflux disease as they help in improving your digestion to reduce any acid reflux symptoms.

  • Any protein rich food that aids in your digestion.
  • Pineapple
  • Papaya as it contains a great enzyme called Papain and is extremely helpful in digestion.

Papaya – Papaya contains papain, which is an enzyme that helps digest protein  and can reduce reflux and be especially beneficial for people who use acid-reducers.

Fiber – many who have eaten foods high in fiber have been shown to suffer less esophageal damage than their low-fiber counterparts and there are many foods which are rich in fiber and should be taken to improve overall health in general.

Pineapple – Pineapple is rich in bromelain, which is a protease which benefits digestion in the same way as papaya which also contains protease.

Protein – any protein-rich food can increase the pressure exerted by the lower esophageal sphincter (the muscle band which helps seal off the stomach), stopping heartburn cold. Protein rich meals for this reason are very good for those suffering from reflux.  Awesome sources of protein include lean animal meats.  Also keep in mind that many protein powders and supplements many cause as well as even protein powders or other supplements.

Take a walk

That’s right a 30 minute walk per day will aid wonderfully against acid reflux disease and most other harmful disease out there.

Your approach to these tips should be not to treat acid reflux disease but to get rid of it all together by following such tips as these.   You will be assured a better quality of life and sleep as well.
