Testosterone plays an important part in the human body, particularly in men, and is what makes a man, a man.  The testosterone level in men declines over the years and can be can hazardous to your health to some extent. Some men with a low testosterone level have symptoms without even knowing it and while they may still have a sex drive they may not have noticed how much it has declined.  This can have a serious effect on the quality of life on many men.

Testosterone builds muscles in the body and is an important hormone for men's health.

Testosterone can increase red blood cell production, enhance your libido, can increase your energy and protect against osteoporosis.  Signs of a low testosterone level can be a low sex drive, mood problems, fatigue, erectile dysfunction and sleep disturbances.  Of all men with below normal levels only about half to two thirds have reported symptoms.

By following these simple suggestions you will be able to up your testosterone level and enjoy your quality of life.

  • · Try drinking a protein and carb shake after working out. When one consumes carbs and proteins after working out studies have shown that an increase of testosterone can enter your muscle cells where it can work and increase muscle growth. Try mixing up some whey protein along with simple carbs.
  • · Eat lots of animal protein. Studies have revealed that vegetarian diets can lead to a lower blood testosterone level and by consuming fish, chicken, beef and pork you can up your levels.  Red meat is particularly good to eat due to its high levels of saturated fats and zinc which is a mineral associated with a higher testosterone level.
  • · Eat fat: a new study has revealed that when a person ingests, total fat, saturated fat and monounsaturated fat ones testosterone level can rise.  Try eating foods high in monounsaturated fats like avocados, nuts, seeds, olives and olive oil. Red meat and dairy products are also good for sources of protein and saturated fats.
  • Eat plenty of food. The quantity of calories that you consume each day should be enough to keep your bodyweight. Low calorie diets are associated with lower testosterone level so try consuming 18-20 calories for every pound of your bodyweight.
