We have previously talked about beach fitness, but what about taking advantage of the  mountains in your home town. There are many activities you can do while also enjoying the scenery. Trees can give you a good sense of peace and can help you get closer to your inner self. Nature is good for our spirit and soul. It is also a good place to meditate and do some life reflection.

Close your eyes and imagine working out while listening to the birds sing or better yet a river or cascade flow. It is definitely a way to get in a good mood and enjoy your day or week. Some of us are lucky to have these scenery and don’t take advantage of it. See what you are missing. And to think that some people pay thousands of dollars to be close to a mountain. If you do have it, enjoy it!

Tokyo´s Nippon Medical School researchers have found that women who spent two to four hours in the woods on two consecutive days experienced a nearly 50 percent increase in the activity of cancer fighting white blood cell.

It has also been published a study in 2011 by Medicine and Science in Sports & Exercise found that people who walked on an outdoor track moved at a faster pace, perceived less exertion and experienced more positive emotions than those who walked on an indoor treadmill.

It´s time for you to say goodbye to your treadmill and start experiencing all the benefits you can get from nature. There are many activities you can do such as:

Mountain biking: It´s a great sport that is becoming more and more popular. Your endurance, strength and balance will be challenge in this sport. With mountain biking you are not only going to get a good workout but also have fun. Your legs are going to get toned and lean.

It will also help you increase your stamina. You get to workout your lungs and other organs. The ability to go further and further will prove to you that your stamina and endurance are improving. It is a good choice for those people who want to lose weight. Just try it and take your family along. A great exercise to share with friends and family, even to meet new people.

Hiking and mountain climbing: They have become two very popular activities. Sometimes confused but are different. Hiking is walking through nature or on a trail.

On the other hand mountain climbing is considered a sport or hobby. The objective is to climb the mountain. Also known as mountaineering or alpinism.

Both activities help you both exercise and clear your mind. Great stress relievers!

Canopy. This activity includes zip lines of different lengths and hanging bridges each one taking you through different challenges, which will boost your adrenaline while been surrounded by amazing sceneries from up above. With this activit you get to exercise your legs as well as your arms and upper body.

All the activities I have mentioned are just some of the fun ways to keep active while visiting the mountains. If you are lucky might even go for a swim in a nearby river after an active day. Aside from being fun to do they also bring you different benefits, such as helping you keep in shape by losing some pounds.

Great activities to improve your cardiovascular fitness. Hiking for example helps decrease your cholesterol levels.

Let’s not forget they also help you be calm, relax and in a more positive state of mind. These activities will reduce anxiety and hypertension while slowing your aging process by helping you reduce antioxidants thru your sweat.

Remember also that exercising outdoors exposes you to sunlight which is an excellent source of vitamin D. Vitamin D improves the absorption of calcium by the bones. Also prevents cardiovascular disease, multiple sclerosis and cancer.

Today people are enjoying nature and looking forward to spending weekends outdoors therefore choosing to do mountain activities will be a good option. Don’t forget to be safe by using the right gear. Follow instructions and if necessary read the manual or watch some videos before embarking on any of these activities. Once you get informed and have the right equipment will be ready for a fun adventurous activity. JUST enjoy and go for it!
