The remedies of the past have always proven to be the best and most wise.  Our forefathers paid particularly good attention to the herbs and vegetables that grew around them not only for their taste but also for the health benefits that the derived from them.  Mother earth has been kind enough to not only give us some very tasty vegetables and fruits but she has also given us hints as to what to eat to fuel our body so that it can perform at its best.

The semblance of the tomato to our heart is a clue to its health benefits to us.

Look at a tomato. The size is almost the same as that of our heart.  Its red like our hearts and has four chambers like our heart.  Research has shown that tomatoes can help in reducing circulatory problems of the heart and also contain the substance lycopene which by the way is great for our heart because it can lower cholesterol levels and also enhances the body’s defense against illness and disease. Interestingly enough the lycopene, when cooked and processed is more readily available and absorbed into our bodies.

Next look at a walnut. It is an interesting coincidence that it is shaped similarly to our brain and people who eat nuts as part of a healthy diet can lower their low density lipoprotein or bad cholesterol level in their blood, and high density lipoprotein is the main cause for heart attacks. Eating nuts can reduce your risk of developing blood clots that can cause fatal heart attacks and they can also improve the health in the lining of your arteries.

If you look at a cluster of grapes you may have the inclination to think that they are good for the heart by the shape of it and the fact that it also resembles our blood cells.  A new study has given us tantalizing hints as to the potential of grapes in reducing cardiovascular disease due to its high levels of phytochemicals which are natural antioxidants.

For strong bones try eating Celery. It not only looks like our bones but it has properties that are particularly designed to target bone strength. Celery is rich in silicon that is needed for healthy joints and bones and general bone health.  It is also 23 percent sodium just like our bones which in effect can strengthen our general bone mass.
