Salt is a great preservative but the problem here is that the burger patties served throughout fast food chains in the world can actually qualify as preserved meats since they are loaded with the many other chemical preservatives that can equal all around bad health and serous risks of dangerous diseases for the person eating this food.  There is a video on youtube were some guy actually saved various types of burgers from a fast food chain documented and showed off his “burger museum” to all his friends to show that they could last for years and still looked and smelled the same see the video herehttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mYyDXH1amic

The longevity of the burgers bun served in these same institutions are so loaded with additives and preservatives that mold doesn’t even have a place to grow.  There are over 30 ingredients that go into making a burger bun that is served in a fast food restaurant and the claim that they are for preservative reasons is bogus as its fast food and needs no time to sit around since people want to eat it fast.  I worked for a fast food chain in the past and the meats and buns always came in frozen so why the need to make them last as much as a decade?   I have been a chef in the past and have made thousands of burger buns and making burger buns generally entailed a few ingredients found in the pantry like flour, yeast, sugar, salt but never saw the need to add chemicals like ammonium solfate and sodium proprionate, or partially hydrogenated soybeans which causes heart disease or high fructose corn syrup which causes diabetes, to the dough but this is what chains like McDonalds, burger king and Wendy are actually putting in their foods and labeling them as preservatives. It’s a sad world we live in when even foods that are simple to make and prepare can actually kill you and have many already.  Like I said before that I have been a chef and have also made thousands of burgers in my culinary career and the ingredients were always salt, pepper, maybe some Worchester sauce, or finely diced onions but never say the need to add dozens of chemicals to help them last longer.

Mold is a living organism and needs food to live, so if it won’t even feed on these burgers would you really call it food at all?  The saddest part of all this is the effect this food is having on kids and the damaging and lasting effect that it will have in their health lives.
