I get a better physic when I take a week off here and there. Over training is not good and gets you no where.

Are you just starting to hit the gym and or just started lifting? Just woundering..

I think a little sore is OK, at the same time soreness is the body telling you that the muscle is still damaged, so I would think it better to rest and nourish that muscle before hitting it again too fast. For example I know that I normally wont stay sore more then three days, I also know that if I take less then three days rest before hitting a muscle again I get less gains. Hope this helps in some way.

Not sure how long you been back in the gym but I would recommend being back in there for at least a few months before getting back on.

why is that

Well for a few reasons, Main reason being to give your body time to get back into the swing of things. Give you body a chance to get use to lifting again, if you jump right back into a cycle before you ready, its a good way to cause injury. Let you body get some strength back and have at least a few workouts to "come back". Besides the more you put on before running you cycle, the more you stand to gain when on, that's always a good reason for to to push as long as I can naturally.
I'm only giving this advice because I made this mistake before. After some unwanted time off I was SO pissed off and ready to get back where I was that I jumped right back on, NOT a good idea. For starters I messed with my cycle because my body wasn't ready to handle the gains the cycle was trying to produce. I couldn't increase weight like I should have done because my body was just no conditioned back into shape properly. I ended up having to take way more rest days due to being extremely sore because I was doing way more then my body was ready to do at that point, not to mention causing shoulder problems that still bother me to this day! Its almost like jumping into the hardest workout of your life with no warm-up at all! By the time I actually started to "come back" my cycle was more then half over and I didn't gain anywhere what I should have because of being impatient! If I would have just taken even a few weeks and got back into "working" shape, I would have been ready to start my cycle and instead of fighting against my body, I would have gained what I should have and saved myself a lot of pain!
Just some friendly advice!

Sore tells you that the muscles have reached limit and you will need to rest it for the recovery period. Or you must've been doing some wrong routine and you need to rectify them now or suffer more pain in the long run.
Everybody wants to get six pack abs, but only the most motivated, strong-willed, and updated to the latest breakthrough succeeds.

Hello,
If it is fresh in nature then you should take rest for some day, after gaining some strength get back to your schedule but don`t over exert.
