Question No muscle soreness the next day?
I hate when i work my ass off at the gym..and my muscles are'nt sore the next day. I feel like i did'nt do what i set out to do. Now i know that soreness is a result of lactic acid build up and its nothing more than a waste product, but if i don't feel it i feel like shit. Yanno, NO PAIN NO GAIN...and in this case, NO PAIN...lol..WTF

So my question is...If my muscles are'nt sore, does that mean that i didn't get anywhere the day before?

i dont believe lactic acid is a factor in muscle soreness. i think this is a common misconception. i have to research this further.

doms is caused by micro tears in the muscle fibers and shows up 12-24 hours after your workout.

you can recruit muscle cells that werent previously used and not be sore.

someone with more physiology experience can elaborate on ths better.

soreness during and RIGHT after your work out yes acid but where talkin like 20min or so at most after. hrs later ot next day has nothing to do with lactic acid.
i too feel if i dont hurt next day i didnt work hard enuff lol
i like the feeling of soreness for the muscle i worked out. and 99% of the time have it next day if not the same day.

So what does soreness the next day have to do with?

you guys are new at lifting?

DOMS usually does not stick around after you've been training for awhile. even if you were to totally blast the muscle with tons of sets. its more of a newbie thing

and has nothing to do with whether you worked out well enough

This is how I avoid the soreness I used to get bad enough that I may have needed to take vicodins to dull the pain.

I noticed that whenever I went to complete failure on each set, I would get extreme muscle soreness for the next 4 days.

Now I up the weight a little or keep it the same, do more sets and just keep away from going to failure. I stay about 2 reps short of it.

This works for me, I recover faster, I use more weight, I can do more sets, and strength goes up also, I'm never sore and I get to enjoy my life without the soreness interfering with it.
