Why do almost all Pro builders train with high volume and 1 x week pr bodypart?
Almost everytime I see a traningvideo with a pro he`s doing a hell of a lot of sets and reps and goes all out on a bodypart once per week..
Its seems so strange that almost all of those guys make this way of training work, yet noone recommends doing high volume and 1 x bodypart per week.
Opinions?

They don't. Honestly, I think those magazines are BS for the most part. Many of the top body builders IE coleman, jackson, branch warren started off their careers as powerlifters. I know Dave Henry trains under DC and has made great strides under Dante. For the ones that do...how they can get away with it? Having genetics only 1-2% of the population has.

Not even 1-2%. Coleman worked each bodypart two full workouts per week.

Good point now that I think about it. Ive seen probably a thousand people workout from various gyms and no one had pro body builder genetics
Although come to think of it im pretty sure johnie jackson and coleman still lift heavy. How about that video of coleman doing 800x2 on deads?

perhaps more than once a week is too harsh on the joints? especially after years of hard training and AAS use, the joints have taken a beating. IMO, anyways. i also train each BP once a week, but i have a physical construction job. good results for me, doesnt tax my system, making it easier to recover. plus, after years of training, you probably become pretty efficient at performing all your lifts, and you know which ones give you the best results....

I think they do the one part per week thing because that's what normal people can handle. None of us could do what they really do and make progress.

I bet it would be closer to .1-.2% of the population.

From what ive read, bodypart splits came about with the introduction of dbol. Those that were around during this time and adopted those methods of training are the same ones training todays pros.
-
they basically train each body part twice a week. ..

Ive seen many training vids, where they showed a typical week of training and dieting.
Ive seen Lee priest, ronnie coleman, shawn ray, markus ruhl, dorian yates, arnold, flex wheeler and Kevin levrones vids, they all train like this exept dorian yates which trains HIT and ronnie which hits some bodyparts twice a week.
Maybe they dont train like this all the time, but it was how they trained in those vids..
I know for sure if I tried to train like that i would be able to get out of bed next morning.
Its just sick how these guys train.. Ive heard that they dont even use that large amounts of steroids either which many people think, but thats probably bullshit.

those vids are made to sell. probably a months worth of shooting for a 1 hr workout.

yeah I know, but i cant see why they would train like this just beacuse they are filmed, then train completely different when the cams are off.

Come on guys lets keep on topic if not theres always the convo lounge.
I agree I dont see many clips of BB's working to these ranges Branch Warren seems to throw a shit load of weight around when he's in the Gym.

Branch warren, Ron Coleman and Dorian yates seem to be the only ones that work with heavy weights at high intensity. You also have to take into account that most of those videos are fillmed a few weeks out from competition so there training methods may be varied from heavy compound exercises to high vloume lower intensity.

6 years ago i trained 1 bodypart per day 1x per week and made the best gains of my life. but honestly, i was on test/dbol and i force fed myself every single hour. i also did not train for a year prior so most of it was probly muscle memory. so i dont know if that was the best routine but the gear allowed me to train that way not to mention the diet. im thinking of going back to that routine but then again i couldnt do that unless i was supplemented. for some reason i dont like training each part once a week. if you think about it, your delts are so much smaller than ur back or legs so i dont see how your delts will grow once a week. sounds like undertraining to me to be honest. then again, my delts suck (due to not doing much pressing and believe iso movements were superior) so im looking for a relief.

excellant point about when the film was done. precontest is about cutting and not loseing lean mass instead of gaining lean mass.
ronnie coleman does heavy compound movements/powerlifts as part of his training .

go train at gold's venice at 4am or whenever it is they open, and watch for urself.
only way to really know, is to find a pro BB, watch and learn.

do you guys think the pros use(d) as many machines in reality as they do in the films even back in the 70s? everytime you watch a film its got a lot of machine work in it (except for the unbelievable)

Junior Bodybuilder
can you really hit with enough volume to grow properly doing everything twice a week?
how do you incorporate that into a routine properly?
Not too sure how one can workout the full body properly twice per week. If you workout your legs properly and don't take a day off your workout will be half assed.
I always find I can't push as hard working out two days in a row

Rookie
i train once a week cause my chest and legs take a bout 5 days to recover
-
90% of people overtrain(much of this can be attributed to the muscle mags, lol). The pros have 2 things going for them....1 they are gifted genetically and second theyre on enough gear for 10 gym rats.

LOL. I was thinking the same thing, im pissed you said it first.
No, not to bust your balls readytoroid, but name is pretty silly bro.
To answer your ? about what the pro's do. Dude dont even worry about it. They aaverage 40grand+ a year in AAS and other drug use to get those physiques. They get such an extreme pump in the gym it is sometimes painful for them to work each bodypart more than once a week. Also keep in mind their diets consist of 5k+ cal's a day it's insaine. My friend competes on an amateuer level and spends 30grand a yr. on his drugs and sup's for the gym.
Trick is to find what is comfortable to you. What you get the best pump out of. You can train each body part twice a week. I like it. I superset a strength training program where I spilt up the bodyparts twice a week.
And why or how you ask can they go such high volume. Well if you were runnun 2 grams of test and deca a week with 4-5ius a day of growth you would be training pretty intense.
