    Default Muscle Soreness Help
For some reason I am not recovering as fast as I typically have in the past. My muscles stay sore for a lot longer (close to a week per muscle group) makes it tougher to do any other workouts. I have been eating less and have been more stressed which may be contributing.

Thoughts on what can be done to alleviate muscle soreness and get me recovering faster? I take ibuprofen before workouts to get through the pain but it's not overtraining as I only hit one msucle group per week at most.

I have cut my overall calories but maintain a high protein diet and my muscle soreness is gone within a day, so this makes sense to me.

You must do things for recovery.

    a. STRETCH very good after a workout. Once you workout your muscles are very tight and constricted. So in other words not much oxygen or nutrients can get to your muscles. It would take 4 hours for your muscles to recover naturally without stretching.

b.) there are other recovery methods.. the day after or even 6 hours after take light weights and do sets of 50-100 @ about 30% of your 1rm. So if you have a bench day, you could take light dbs and do sets of 50-100 with them to push the oxygen in the muscle, thus better recovery. You could also do tricep pushdowns in the same manner, that's just another example.

    c) you could be over trainining. taking longer to recover inbetween workouts could be caused by over training. whens the last time you took a break or deload?

I hate stretching . . I know it's necessary but it seems like such a HUGE waste of time . . .how do you stretch shoulders, biceps and triceps? Legs I get . . .

I like option B and will try that . . .thanks

Deload has been a little while . . .could do that but I use the gym to releave stress and anxiety. It just amazes me at how sore I am getting when I have NEVER been this sore for this long and the workouts I have been doing aren;t changing dramatically with the number of reps, set or the amount of weight

Have a look at some of the DC stretches, they tend to work very well especially shoulders.
