    Default Too much Protein intake?
Is it possible to eat too much protein in one sitting? I heard your body can only digest a certain amount, if you overeat protein in one meal, it is just waste. Is this true?

I mean I just ate a lb of ribeye, I know thats more than 50mg.

I wouldn't drink a huge whey shake, as that might be wasteful. As to meat, you can digest huge amounts at one time, so don't worry about it.

You should probably spread out the protein intake throughout the day, instead of 1 huge amount...To grow muscle you'd need about 250-300 grams of protein a day, depending on your current size...so that'd be like 6 lbs of steak , try getting protein from a variety of foods

I actually like taking a protein shake 3 times a day...but just 1 scoop with milk, its around 30g...your body can only process around 30g of protein an hour, you crap the rest out...but like frosty said, meats you can eat a lot at once...I've noticed I can eat way more protein from chicken all at once and digest it properly, like 2-3 chicken breasts @ 40g each...but a big protein shake with like 80g of protein...goes right thru me

The trainer at my gym...he actually said 25 grams - he's extremely knowledgable so I trust him, but I will mention to him that I think thats a little low myself and see what he says

But like I said, I've noticed with whole foods I can pretty much eat unlimited amount of protein at once

But for protein shakes, anything over 50grams at once, doesn't sit well, and goes right through me...my shakes actually have 40 grams of protein when I mix them with milk, and that seems to be perfect.

I just thought I'd give the answer the trainer gave instead of my own personal exp.

I would like to see studies on the protein/hour number. Until then we can't say it's legit. Besides...too many factors for only one number.

I take a protein shake with 75g of protein post w/o (early in the morning) and then a meal with the same amount of protein about 2 hours later. I usually don't need to have a bm until at night after all the rest of my meals. I think this is an individual thing, not a "one number fits all" situation.

    Just my 2mL

30mg is waay low. Some protien shake are 50mg. Dude a can if tuna is 30mg, I'm sure a steak is more.

BTW: I don't like trainers. I had two different ones in 4 years, both did 6 weeks with me. All they are are motivators, they know shit. They just read and pass a class got certified to rehash shit they read. Most trainers at my gym or outofshape talkers not do-ers.

Ya, I agree, like I said, whole foods the limit is definately not 30 grams...its gotta be in the hundreds, maybe even unlimited...but for shakes, I can only take 40g at a time...some people obviously can take more...I don't know where the trainer heard its only 25g, I am still going to ask

I'm convinced this number is absolute bullshit because I keep hearing it all over and keep asking people for a reference, but no one has come up with any reference what-so-ever. Until someone cites a study for this, it's a bullshit number.

Just fyi...it's grams, not milligrams. Maybe you were thinking of something else when you wrote that

There's quite a few studies out there into post and pre workout nutrition where they give the subjects a lot more than 30g.

    Thatnumber is complete bullshit.
