i think under the toe is more emphasize on the glute and hamms...i think i cant remember..this would probably get better responces in the training forum though..

Taller people such as Arnold find it alot more stressful on the lower back. Putting the 2 x 4 under the heels helps with balance and put more emphasis on the quads and not the back.

Putting a 2 x 4 under your toes is an accident waiting to happen.

I tried it with some 2.5s and 5s yesterday under the toes with lightweight round 275. I thought it felt really good as far as balance goes, dunno.

    IMO it'
s a bad idea all together. Look at what it does. it brings your ankles closer to your butt and you knees higher. easier on your back maybe but harder on the knees. I'd do them in the natuallest form possibl;e and then use other machines, excersizes etc to tweak the ares that need more i.e. hams, quads, calves etc.

I'm 5'4" and I put 5 lbs. plates under my heels so I can keep my balance to go down all the way with heavy weight

i can't believe only one rejection of this old school way of thinking

this will put much more stress on your knees and you don't want to f*ck those up so don't do them. any 'emphasis' on the quads they create isn't worth the long term damage

everyone should be thinking about adding more weight to the bar not working the inner portion of the chest or peak of the bicep (yes i know all bs) or other crap that distracts you from what needs to be done to train effectively
