    Default James Irvin tests Positive!
Not sure if this was posted yet.. but noticed that James Irvins drug test showed up positive after the Silva fight.. Ouch!! Here's the kicker.. it wasn't even gear. I heard it was HEAVY duty pain killers like Methadone and Oxymorphone!!! Wow. The guy was probably in a coma before walking into the cage on those two.

I heard about this a few days ago. This guy has dealt with so many injuries recently it doesn't really come as a surprise.

Ya, after I posted, I remembered he just came back from a bad knee injury or something... How does that work then if the painkillers were from a legit doc for a legit injury.. can he still be suspended for taking them before the fight??? Or is he in the clear?? I was always fuzzy on that and scripts for positive results..

I'm sure he can/will suspended or fined or both. It doesn't make a lot of sense to me, neither of those drugs are performance enhancing, probably more like the opposite. Kind of similar to Diaz getting popped for Marijuana.

Oxymorphone isn't that strong of a drug, it's used to treat mild pain. Methadone on the other had is some strong shit. He couldn't turn down the fight with Silva and he probably was dealing with a lot of pain. He'll definitely get suspended. It's on the banned list and he knew it. During the time when I was seriously considering making a legit career change and try to fight professionally, I found out all the banned substances and I don't think I could do it with all my injuries. To train at that level everyday and not be allowed to take prescriptions to releive pain is crazy, but it's the rules. Kinda like Joe Riggs just getting busted because he told the doctor before his last fight what meds he was taking from his doctor to heal from his back injury and they DQ'ed him. ****, at least he was honest.

Yup, to bain moderate painkiller's, such as Lortatab and such is stupid. The good thing is that the athletic commission doesn't randomly test MMA fighters yet, so they can use these drugs (with risk) if they get thier halflife times correct. Same with juice... if you think Irvin isn't on the sauce they you must be new to the game.

However in Irvins case, the Methadone that was in his system was probably used in a recreational capacity. If he had pain that required metahdone then he wouldn't have been able to fight. I've taken everything under the sun for my many injuries and that dyladid which is basically the same thing was the only thing I have ever taken and went... "whoa, so thats why people do herion." I doubt he has a script for it.

Oxymorphone is like the holy grail for drug abusers, they IV that shit and it is VERY potent. Methadone on the other hand is very rarely prescribed for pain but rather for heroine withdrawal. What the **** kind of shit is Irvin into?
