Breakfast should be the single most important meal of the day. It replenishes our body with essential nutrients and liquids that we need in order to function properly. Sadly many people out there cite excuses like “I’m not hungry in the morning” or “I just don’t have the time” to not eat. There is a study out that has shown that breakfast is in fact the most important meal of the day as it was shown that those who successfully lost weight were the ones who ate breakfast each day.
It has also been shown in other studies that breakfast can actually reduce your risk of illnesses like diabetes, heart disease, stroke and even cancer and can also keep your immune system strong and healthy to resist viruses like colds and flu’s. Eating breakfast will also help those with hyperactivity, anxiety and depression.
It has also been shown that those who eat breakfast have better memory retention, recall and concentration and it has been shown that kids who ate breakfast had higher test scores than those who did not or even worst grabbed a can of soda of their way out the door.
A good and healthy breakfast should be between 600 to 700 calories combined with vitamins and minerals with at least 30 grams of fat and 8 grams of fiber to give your body a good high quality and steady energy supply that will last you throughout morning.
Many out there who do eat breakfast may be thinking that by eating too sugary or carb-filled foods like pancakes, waffles, toast, sugary cereals, donuts, scones, pastries, bagels, pies, breakfast bars and muffins. Although these foods are delicious on their own they are not the best to eat since they are nothing but empty carbs with the added sugar high which your body quickly adjusts to and then drop and keep you on a rollercoaster ride of a day as you will be constantly eating and drinking foods high in sugar to keep you feeling good also foods which are too fatty like fried eggs, sausages, bacon, fried potatoes O’Brian, egg muffins etc.
You should eat foods like:
- Oatmeal, on its own with honey and/or nuts.
- Fresh fruit
- All natural protein shakes
- Fresh fruit Smoothies
- Cottage cheese
- Whole wheat bread
These nutrient packed foods will keep you feeling a whole lot better throughout the morning and keep you energized and fit.
