Everywhere you look now it seems that there is a warning on drinking fruit juices and rightfully so as commercial fruit juices contain
very large amounts of additives, preservatives and procedures that all but neutralized any nutrition contained in the fruits. The commercial way to make fruit juice is basically to boil it by reducing pressure and increasing temperature. When you boil orange juice at 1 atm of pressure, undesired and unhealthy chemical changes take place and all the oxygen is removed. The orange juice starts to have a brownish color instead of bright orange when treated this way and the flavor becomes less desirable because the acid and sugar have reacted and several of the volatile flavor components are lost or undergo chemical change.
The procedure that the corporate fruit juice companies which is not high publicized in their fancy colored ads is that there is an important stage in between the squeezing and packaging that involves storing the juice in giant holding tanks after they have been treated which allows the juice to be stored for up to one year and beyond. Here is the point of it all…. After the juice has been treated and stripped of all its nutrients and flavor these fruit companies hire the same companies that Chanel and Calvin Klein use to create their fragrances to not only put the flavor back into their treated juices but to give their juice their own unique flavor this is why Tropicana taste the same whether you bought it in Denver or France. You see, these “flavor packs are made from orange by-products — even though these ‘by-products’ are so chemically manipulated that they hardly qualify as ‘by-products’ any more and are being added to all fruit juices without being considered an ingredient despite the overwhelming fact that they have been chemically altered.
What gets my blood boiling is that all these negative press is being given to fruit juices in general making people think that ALL fruit juices are bad for you.
What should you do about this? Simple, get a juicer and squeeze your own juice and also get a blender and lots of different fruits. The most common fruits for blending are bananas, pineapple, cantaloupe, watermelon and papaya. You can add fresh organic milk to most, freshly squeezed juices or with purified water and a few tablespoons of sugar or honey.
The recipe below can be used for a wide variety of blende drinks its only up to your imagination and taste as to what you will be drinking in the endgame.
